In a landmark legal victory, the family members of eight victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting have been awarded nearly $1 billion in damages from conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his company, Infowars. The jury found that Jones had defamed the families by falsely claiming that the shooting was a hoax.
The 20 children and six adults who were killed on December 14, 2012, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, will be remembered with a permanent memorial that opened in November, nearly 10 years after the tragedy.
