2023 Rugby World Cup: South Africa edge past England in semi-final thriller
Handre Pollard penalty seals victory for reigning champions
Relive the action from a pulsating contest in Paris
Reigning Rugby World Cup champions South Africa edged past England in a pulsating semi-final in Paris on Saturday, thanks to a late penalty from Handre Pollard.
The match was evenly poised throughout, with both teams trading blows in a high-octane encounter. England took an early lead through a try from Jonny May, but South Africa hit back with two tries of their own through Makazole Mapimpi and Lukhanyo Am.
Pollard missed a penalty that would have given South Africa the lead in the final minutes, but he made no mistake with his next attempt from 50 metres out, handing his side a narrow 19-17 victory.
South Africa will now face either New Zealand or Wales in the final on 28 October.
